Smart Mobility Seminar
Under the umbrella of European Innovation Week, this seminar was organised by the European Commission, GNSS.asia, the Ministry of Transportations and Communications (MOTC) and the Taiwan Telematics Industry Association (TTIA). It brought together more than 150 key players from the EU and Taiwan to discuss all the possibilities for “smart” applications and services for mobility. Opening remarks were made by Antti Peltomäki, Deputy Director General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, and Wang Kwo-Tsai, Deputy Minister of MOTC. Participants were provided insights into future trends in the industry, including the future of mobility, Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), navigation and positioning. The following representatives from European companies gave presentations: Giuseppe Izzo from STMicroelectronics, Samuel Hsu from Dassault Systems, Emilien Oumehdi from Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Enterprises, Alejandro Badolato from Auto Drive Solutions S.L., and Angela Hsiao, Taiwan Team Leader of GNSS.asia.
In the morning session, European and Taiwanese speakers shared about the technologies and regulations on ITS development, autonomous driving, shared and connected vehicles. Giuseppe Izzo from STMicroelectronics shared about ST’s products and solutions in the auto industry, such as electrification, ADAS, vision processors and Radar sensor, smart automotive camera solutions, V2X communication Wi-fi 11.P, cellular connectivity, and GNSS chipsets for automotive. Martin Ting from Taiwanese company 7Starlake shared its autonomous shuttle project (EZ 10) in collaboration with French company EasyMile. Ting indicated the complexity and roadmap to develop self-driving services applications and smart city solutions, as well as the company’s vision of connected & shared mobility in smart cities. Samuel Hsu from Dassault Systems shared more about the project of 3DExperience for future mobility, which provides online, collaborative and secured single version of truth for online multi-discipline design, online system engineering and online virtual manufacturing.
In the afternoon session, speakers shared technologies and experiences in MaaS, navigation and positioning. Emilien Oumehdi talked about the ambitious European project to scale up hydrogen mobility in France. The Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region sets an objective to deploy a captive fleet of 1000 fuel cell electric vehicles and 20 hydrogen refueling stations by 2023 to create a zero-emission valley. Alejandro Badolato from Auto Drive Solutions S.L., Spain introduced its company’s solutions on Radar positioning system for road transportation and last mile driverless mobility services and autonomous ground vehicles. The system has the technology to read 3D paint drops on the road and is low-cost, reliable, and always available with an accuracy to 1 cm. Angela Hsiao presented about the current status of Galileo with an emphasis on the contribution of GNSS to autonomous driving, as well as the GNSS.asia project.
