Since the integration of location-based applications with smartphones, location accuracy has been limited by chips with only single-frequency receivers. With the placement of the Xiaomi Mi 8 on the market, smartphone users can assess their location by the decimetre rather than the metre. The dual-frequency receiver also improves accuracy within urban areas, which are usually troublesome because of tall buildings. This innovation offers new effectiveness to navigators and opens a range of possibilities for application developers. Location accuracy once limited to professional devices is now available to the common smartphone user.
